After 36 years with ABC 13 - WSET in Lynchburg, Senior Anchor and Managing Editor, Noreen Turyn, is retiring.
Her last day at the television station will be July 24.
Noreen came to ABC 13 as a reporter in 1990 after having worked in Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD.
Scott Nichols, News Director at ABC 13 – WSET, said Noreen has been a crucial part of the news team for decades.
“Her dedication to telling meaningful local stories and her steady leadership in the newsroom have set the standard for excellence," Nichols said.
"While we will miss her tremendously, we are thrilled for her to enjoy a well-deserved retirement. We thank her for the impactful role she has played at this station and in the lives of our viewers,” Nichols added.
Noreen's work at ABC 13 earned her numerous awards, notably an Emmy Award and a Virginia Association of Broadcasters award for her piece, "What Happened to Johnny?" regarding the 2022 death of Lynchburg resident Johnny Cashman.
George Kayes, General Manager of ABC 13 – WSET, said, “Her guidance has been instrumental in developing our newsroom talent, and her impact on our community is profound. She has not only informed our viewers but inspired those who have had the privilege to work alongside her.”
In a Facebook post, Noreen says retiring is the hardest decision she's ever made and that she's both happy and sad, but that, "it's been an amazing ride."
Noreen says she will be staying in the Lynchburg area and that she's looking forward to doing some traveling.
