Nicki Minaj is teaming up with President Donald Trump's United Nations ambassador to address alleged violence against Christians in Nigeria.
On Tuesday (November 18), Nicki is set to deliver remarks at the U.N. in New York City alongside Ambassador Mike Waltz and Trump media advisor Alex Bruesewitz, per USA Today.
“I look forward to standing with her as we discuss the steps the President and his administration are taking to end the persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters. She is a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice," Waltz said in a statement.
The rapper's appearance at the U.N. comes as Trump is threatening military action against Nigeria over alleged attacks on Christians. The Trump administration previously said it would be designating Nigeria as a "country of particular concern" amid the alleged violence, opening the door for sanctions, aid restrictions, or other punitive measures.
The Nigerian government has strongly denied claims that Christians are being systematically targeted because of their religion. Officials say all citizens, regardless of faith, are suffering from the extremist violence that has plagued regions of the country.
Trump praised Nicki for speaking out about the alleged targeted persecution in Nigeria.
"No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other," the Grammy-nominated artist previously wrote.
On Sunday (November 16), Nicki expressed gratitude for the opportunity to speak at the U.N.
“Ambassador, I am so grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude. I do not take it for granted. It means more than you know," she tweeted. “The Barbz & I will never stand down in the face of injustice. We’ve been given our influence by God. There must be a bigger purpose.”
