A man has been arrested in connection with the killing of a mother and her 12-year-old son in Michigan.

According to PEOPLE, 41-year-old Linda Hill and Kardi Jackson, 12, were found dead with traumatic injuries to their necks in a home in Hazel Park, Michigan on Monday (September 1).

Hazel Park police and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office arrested a 43-year-old suspect from nearby Pontiac on Tuesday (September 2) while executing a search warrant. Authorities haven't publicly identified the suspected killer.

Hill's sister launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral costs.

"Linda was loved by everyone who knew her; she would have given the shirt off her back to help others," L’Keisha Whitfield wrote in the fundraiser.

"Kardi was the sweetest child, never bothered anyone, always enjoying his video games and spending time with family," she added.

Demontez Hill, Hill's 21-year-old son and Jackon's brother, is mourning the loss of his family.

“He’s like a younger version of me, always playing around and having fun," Demontez said of his brother.

“I don’t even know what would make a person do something like this," he added.

The motive behind the killings remains unclear. Police also haven't specified what charges the suspect is facing.
