Study Says Mushrooms Talk To Each Other

Research published this week in the Royal Society Open Science journal is said by scientists to show that mushrooms talk to each other with a 50-word vocabulary. The team say they found that mushrooms generate electrical spikes in the dirt that happen in clusters like human speech.

The scientists say the fungi “chat” to let other mushrooms know they’re around, and possibly tip each other off to potential threats or food sources. Researchers say there could be another explanation…that mushrooms aren’t actually saying anything with the impulses at all.
